VETERANS EMPOWERING TEENS THROUGH SUPPORT®

(V.E.T.T.S.®) A Restorative Justice Mentoring Program

TRAINING:

Built on a foundation of camaraderie and brotherhood, the V.E.T.T.S. program unites a team of military veterans across Connecticut in the service of youth in need. Our V.E.T.T.S.  go through a vigorous selection process, our mentors must be a responsive, mature and positive role model that will support youth with guidance, strength, and reassurance. In order to be an effective mentor for the V.E.T.T.S. youth community, it is most helpful to understand the day-to-day living experience that leads to at-risk behaviors for urban youth. Young people living this lifestyle might exhibit a common set of behaviors, though each may vary in the way they appear to others.

TRAINING GOALS:

Our goal is to train our Veterans to become culturally competent mentors and effective social justice advocates. By providing exceptional, well integrated and organized quality training programs, we believe in strengthening their knowledge around effectual strategies. This includes developing and augmenting their social justice skills, community engagement, advocacy and group mentoring. Additionally, this training curriculum is designed to assist Veterans in functioning as mentors, advocates and professionals while concurrently providing them with the proper support to continue to develop their skills as V.E.T.T.S. mentors.
